Fort Worth, TX (Sports Network) - Lonta Hobbs ran for 79 yards and a score, as the 25th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs defeated the Navy Midshipmen, 17-3, from Amon G. Carter Stadium.
Tye Gunn finished with 173 yards and interception on 14-of-20 passing for the Horned Frogs (2-0), while Reggie Harnell had career-high five receptions for 70 yards.
Despite Hobbs' strong rushing day, his 79-yard performance marked the first time in the last nine games for TCU that it failed to have a 100-yard rusher.
Navy (1-1) was paced in defeat by Kyle Eckel, who ran for 50 yards on 17 carries. Craig Candeto connected on 7-of-15 pass attempts for only 75 yards and an interception.
The Midshipmen mustered just 207 total yards of offense and only 3.0 yards per play, while allowing the Horned Frogs to rack up 334 yards and average of 5.1 yards per play.
Navy struck first in the contest, putting up the only points of the opening half on a 32-yard field goal from Geoff Blumenfeld.
The Horned Frogs tied the game up at 11:37 into the second half, as Nick Browne hit a 23-yard field goal.
Corey Connally gave TCU its first lead of the game on a two-yard touchdown run with less than five minutes left in the third period.
Hobbs put the Horned Frogs up 17-3 with a 13-yard touchdown scamper near the very beginning of the fourth stanza, helping them solidify the 14-point victory.
Game Notes: Lionel Wesley was the only Midshipmen with more than one reception, finishing with three catches for 45 yards...Gunn added 57 rushing yards on 14 attempts...Connally's touchdown run was his only carry of the game...The Horned Frogs have won their last eight homes games dating back to the 2001 campaign...TCU has now won both its meetings with the Midshipmen, as it also won the first encounter, 24-0 in 2000.
